Ilyssa Chavez is a Californian Mexican-American artist who received her BFA degree at CSU Stanislaus. Ilyssa’s disciplinary practice with oil paint allows her to explore expressive and emotive color with the imagery of the figure in an ephemeral state. Playing around with the stability and deterioration of the figure’s surroundings, she explores the psyche and uses painterly devices to add commentary on concerning themes. Her work confronts the complicated relationship of time and memory and its association with grief and nostalgia. 

Ilyssa’s work has been exhibited regionally at the Axis Gallery in Sacramento and in local Downtown Turlock Art Space. She takes pride in her time as a Stan State Warrior due to the many connections she made in ASI and the BFA program. She looks forward to continuing her artistic journey and receiving her credentials in the upcoming year so that she can give back to her community as an Art educator in the Central Valley.
